The widely use of Povidone

  Povidone can be defined as a synthetic polymer used in dispersing and suspending a compound. Povidone iodine is used prior to surgery in sterilizing the place of incision.

  Povidone is an effective drug for treating and curing wounds and skin infections. Traditionally Iodine has been acknowledged as powerful bactericide and it is useful for fungi, protozoans, viruses, and yeasts. The iodine has the problem of irritation on the skin and toxicity in some sensitive persons. The iodine also results in formation of stains around the area where it is applied.
  Povidone is also recommended for stasis ulcers and decubitus ulcers and is quite reliable anti-biotic medicine. It can also be used as talc and its main plus point is that it is very cheap and economical.
  Povidone is also available in the market in the form of lotions, cream and spray. It is the most often used antiseptic in the medical field. More and more health experts depend on this substance as it is quite safe and do not have any major side effects. Just clean the wound or cut and apply this substance on it and the cut or wound will heal within a short period of time.
  The Iodine which was used earlier had many undesirable side effects associated with it. This substance on the other hand is more safe and advanced antiseptic medicine as compared with Iodine. It is completely soluble in water especially in cold water. It is also soluble in glycerol, isopropyl alcohol and polyethylene.
  The iodine released from PVP destroys prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells by the Iodination of lipids and through cytoplasmic oxidation. This component is known to show wide range of activity of microbicidal abilities against fungi, viruses, protozoa and bacteria.
  The Povidone iodine is used in hospitals all over the world and is quite effective and the cheapest form of anti-biotic medicine. There are certain conditions in which one should consult their physician before using this substance. Like pregnant ladies and person having an allergic history should not use it. In case one has bigger burn or deeper wounds, then he or she should not use it without taking the advice of a doctor.
  Although povidone in the treatment cuts, lacerations paly a good role, but when you are use of opovidone iodine,it is still need attention sometimes,For example,It should not be used in: patients with known or suspected sensitivity to iodine, children aged under 2 years or premature babies (depending on brand), deep wounds. Povidone iodine should not be used regularly in thyroiddisease, or in patients receiving lithium treatment.
